The photographing and videographing of American and European cityscapes has been the primary means for my work’s overall ideational development. It is an expression of factors vastly reconfiguring urban environments and their inhabitants.
Figure/ground relationships within cities grow increasingly askew. Issues of alienation, displacement, aggression, consumption and control are my primary concern.
Markers/Monuments/Messages is one in a series of modular-wall works begun in 2001 during a residency at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin. It is composed on eight pairs of images and the three words in the work’s title. In their totality, they address the above stated ideation in its broadest context of all of the works in the series. The images were photographed in four American cities and three European countries: Ireland, England and Norway.
