Faces in the Crowd developed from a series of works exploring the nature of appearance. Choices in, and interpretations of, appearance are influenced by cultural, educational, religious, societal, gender and genetic differences. How and why we interpret the nature of appearance has become an important theme in my artwork.
Within this print, I have chosen to emphasize the difference that often exists between outer appearance and inner reality. The “face” we present to the world may differ significantly from how we are or perceive ourselves to be.
