I paint on a large scale, paintings that are involved, invented scenarios with a view toward a synthesis of application and content.  I have an interest in the dynamic structures found in Baroque art and am evolving a broad style which fuses this structure with the direct, emotional painting found in German Expressionism.

These large works require considerable time to resolve and I approach them as a series, one carrying over to the next. I work hard to merge content with formal concerns.  I produce prints and life-size pastel drawings of models and landscape paintings which keep me tied to the traditional custom of directly observing form - a practice that continually supplies me with new information about shapes, light, color and space as only nature can, to help nurture my imagination.
