Facts
The ASU Art Museum Ceramics Research Center is designed as a
destination for national and international scholars, and a national model
for a hands-on facility for ceramics. The center encompasses:
- the ASU Art Museums extensive ceramic collection
of 3,000 pieces, specializing in
20th century and contemporary American and British ceramics;
- approximately 5,000 square feet of open storage and
exhibition space;
- access to the collection for students, scholars and
the public for study and enjoyment; and
- the opportunity for close viewing of objects from the collection by appointment.
The next phase embraces four goals to further establish the center as a nationally
recognized site for presentation, research and study of ceramics:
- a permanent, specially designed space in the Tempe
Center development;
- a curator to care for the collection, facilitate use
by students, scholars and the public, mount exhibitions and continue to
research the collection;
- access to archival materials and collection records
online and in hard copies for on site advanced research; and
- a dedicated endowment to fund collecting, conservation, publications, exhibitions and educational programming.
