CoBrA
Experiencing the Second World War as a child growing up in Brussels, Janssen saw the traditions of European culture threatened and later redefined in the post-War period, a time of change that engendered a new artistic sensibility. He began to collect close to home with the works by members of the CoBrA group, artists from Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam, who worked under that name for three short years (1948-51), but whose work Janssen continues to collect today. The CoBrA members he collected in depth are among the most renowned: Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel and Asger Jorn. But, Janssen also collected the works of others whose names are less familiar.
