What is ArtInterAct?
ArtInterAct is a dynamic community outreach program at the Arizona State University
Art Museum that motivates at-risk children to use visual arts for channeling
their emotions, expression and creative ideas. Since 1994 the program has
offered alternative outlets of expression to under-served students dealing
with issues generated by the struggles of growing up, poor living conditions
and violence. The program is designed to give children, teens, youth leaders
and teachers in-depth encounters with artists, museum staff and docents through
interactive workshops, tours and training sessions.
ArtInterAct is an enrichment tool for teachers highlighting issues in contemporary art that can be adapted into classroom lesson plans. It is also intended to elevate awareness of arts education opportunities that exist outside of the classroom setting. By utilizing the ASU Art Museum and the ArtInterAct program on a reoccurring basis, teachers and youth leaders can cultivate bonds of trust between students and adult role models.
The goal of ArtInterAct is to make contemporary art accessible and rewarding to young people and teachers.
