Artist Residencies

The artist residencies of the Social Studies initiative are an attempt to open the creative process, making the "human factor" relevant beyond didactic labels and documentation, and creating actual relationships through artistic practice. Social Studies provides a complete gallery to a visiting artist to explore his or her social interactive approach. The gallery is empty when the guest artist begins the residency but as his or her work unfolds it quickly transforms into a personal studio space. The space allows audiences to view the artist at work, and also invites other artists, students, faculty and the community to collaborate to whatever degree they wish – to query, learn from and share with the artist.
