Arizona State University Art Museum was proud to present a number of short
films and videos by artists from around the world. For this one evening, individuals
were asked to bring a lawn chair, blanket or anything else they wished to
use as a seat and join us on the back plaza for this
FREE EVENT.
FESTIVAL PRESENTED IN VHS FORMAT
Louella Harris graciously donated her time so refreshments could be purchased
throughout our program from the Sweet Lou Hot Dogs cart.

than the next closest entry, so we have awarded it a Leblanc Audience Choice

ANA-VICTORIA AENLLE - Bones
Bones, loosely based on an Inuit Indian folk tale,
follows a day in the life of a lone fisherman.
An unexpected catch becomes the catalyst for
transformation and renewal.
ELINA BROTHERUS - The Lesson
The Lesson deals with cruelty and the use of power.
The cruelty of the criticism directed towards the physical
attributes of a woman (i.e. the body), especially in this
situation which takes place between two women. In the video
Elina Brotherus performs a short and simple ballet series.
She is not a dancer, so even if honestly doing her best,
the result doesn't look good. The Lesson examines,
in direct takes, without warning, without rehearsing:
How it feels to get rude and humiliating response and not
to be able to reach the ideal, no matter how hard one trys.
The directive voice belongs to professional dancer
Vera Nevanlinna who, through her work, is familiar with
the often harsh world of contemporary dance.
RUDY BUST - Cowboy Excitement
A couple of hot-dogging cowboys out for a night
on the town.
MATTHEW EHLERS - The Alibi
Jerome is about to be taught a lesson. The night his
hired hit-man is supposed to murder his wife, Jerome
must find an alibi. Jerome discovers that getting
noticed can be murder.
DIEGO FRIED - Flirt

They know each other on bed. She is a proctologist.
He is a jazz lover. Together make flirt.
KUMARAN HEROLD - Memory
* JUROR CHOICE AWARD

The story of a memory card game between God and Satan.
They play for all eternity and their actions affect
the lives of those with whom they play.
DON HERTZFELDT - Billy's Balloon
A recklessly funny and unbelievably dark and twisted
look at a little boy and his balloon.
ENDA HUGHES - Comm-Raid on the Potemkin
Get ready for a Revolution in movie arcade gaming.
Classic silent movie action goes digital to defeat
the enemy.
TALY AND RUSS JOHNSON - William (Bill) Jefferson
Clinton
Presidential study number 42.
ANN LA VIGNE - Where Monsters Lie
We all live with monsters, don't we?
But not this bad.
One woman tells her story.
SUZY C. MAIER - Confessions at Military Camp

FRANCES McMAHON - Push Me Pull You

A metaphoric look into the sometimes chaotic

PHIL "CAPTAIN 3D" McNALLY - Pump-Action
An animated story of corrupting power, sickening
abuse and paralysing fear.
HUMBERTO RAMIREZ - Pool
A video that deals with the complex series
of operations that we engage with in the
production of identity, beliefs and values.
MARK THOMPSON - Away
Away operates in an experimentation with video
tone poetry. Shot primarily in Los Angeles, Away alludes
to a consumer-based, plastic world full of warmth,
but lacking in profundity.
MARK THOMPSON - Liminal
Liminal operates as a vague journey. Shot primarily
in Switzerland on a train, Liminal aesthetisizes the point
between before and after, conscious or unconscious,
or the real or imagined.
LOUIS THONSGAARD - Per the Viking
The story of a viking named Per who is a loser but
wants to be a hero.
DAN TORRE - Flower Power
A humorous look at the world through the eyes
of flowers with extraordinary powers, set against
a 1970s disco backdrop.
MALCOLM WASS - Cut Grass and Caravans
For the first time see two completely different men
behaving in their natural environments: their caravans.
Watch them work and play...
watch them deal with confrontation.
BEN WOLF - Silver and Gold
A country girl in the big city.
ORLY YADIN AND SYLVIE BRINGAS - Silence
* JUROR CHOICE AWARD
** LeBLANC AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD
The story of "a miracle child" who survived the concentration camps
but was forbidden to talk or ask questions about her experiences and
stayed silent even as an adult. Tana Ross, the survivor, speaks out in
the film and tells her story for the first time in 50 years.
DENISE ZIEGLER - As Seen on Television
An auditive narration and perception of seeing/hearing
are the focus of the analysis.
