sat out under the stars and enjoyed this free event...

Arizona State University Art Museum was proud to present a number of short films and videos by artists from around the world. For this one evening, individuals were asked to bring a lawn chair, blanket or anything else they wished to use as a seat and join us on the back plaza for this FREE EVENT.

Louella Harris graciously donated her time so refreshments could be purchased throughout our program from the Sweet Lou Hot Dogs cart.

The jury process included 362 entries from 34 States and 27 Nations.

One entry missed the Audience Choice Award by one vote but had 22 more votes
than the next closest entry, so we have awarded it a Leblanc Audience Choice Award,

ANA-VICTORIA AENLLE - Bones
Bones, loosely based on an Inuit Indian folk tale,
follows a day in the life of a lone fisherman.
An unexpected catch becomes the catalyst for
transformation and renewal.

ELINA BROTHERUS - The Lesson
The Lesson deals with cruelty and the use of power.
The cruelty of the criticism directed towards the physical
attributes of a woman (i.e. the body), especially in this
situation which takes place between two women. In the video
Elina Brotherus performs a short and simple ballet series.
She is not a dancer, so even if honestly doing her best,
the result doesn't look good. The Lesson examines,
in direct takes, without warning, without rehearsing:
How it feels to get rude and humiliating response and not
to be able to reach the ideal, no matter how hard one trys.

The directive voice belongs to professional dancer
Vera Nevanlinna who, through her work, is familiar with
the often harsh world of contemporary dance.

Jerome is about to be taught a lesson. The night his

must find an alibi. Jerome discovers that getting
noticed can be murder.
