Arizona State University Art Museum is proud to present a number of short films
and videos by artists from around the world. For this one evening, individuals
are asked to bring a lawn chair, blanket or anything else they wish to use as
a seat and join us on the back
plaza for this FREE EVENT.
FESTIVAL PRESENTED IN VHS FORMAT
**Note below: For the second year in a row, special projects by 3rd grade
students at W.T. Machan Elementary School of Phoenix will be presented at our
festival. The projects are a collaboration between W.T. Machan Elementary School,
ASU Art Museum Education Department and local artist Tara Kozuback.

Welcome to Purgatory

Imagine all the deceased rock legends alive and well, and all
together in a junior high school sex education class being
taught by Frank Sinatra. That's just a typical morning in
Purgatory, a town whose inhabitants live their everyday
lives blissfully ignorant that, in our world, they are famous
dead celebrities.

A hot new rap duo brings a whole new flavor to the
rap game with their chart topping single.

Juddi Racer

La Jolla, California
This short documentary is part of a trilogy about Asian
American residents of Las Vegas. The first segment of the
series, Juddi Racer, is a portrait of Juddi Lin. Through a
participatory editing process with Lin, this video shows a young
Asian American woman who is immersed in the local auto racing scene.
For the illegal racers, their goal is not to claim an identity for a
specific location, but rather to constantly roam and identify through
the vehicle. The customized Asian car is a catalyst for interaction,
dialog, and incidental performance.

Road Map (*juror choice award)

Amsterdam
The longing for freedom, the search for love, and the rush for
relief are the themes for Road Map, the report of a travel
through Arizona. Reality and fiction become entangled as the
documentary images of the trip intertwine with the imaginary
journey that takes place in the inner life of the protagonist.

Jack Sings is an actor who is known by his fans as someone
who will sign autographs. The hungry crowd is not satisfied
until everyone gets everything they want.

Drive-In Chapel

Tucson, Arizona
Drive-In Chapel is a quick sketch of Americana in Tucson,
Arizona. An example of ingenuity, the chapel offers its
congregation the opportunity to combine three American
institutions - church, cars and dogs - into one charming
affectionate service.

Mariposa Canyon

Saddened over his mother's recent death, a young man ventures
to the mystical Mariposa canyon, where the ghosts of his past
force him to reflect upon his youth in order to release his
mother's spirit.

Untitled is a work about someone caught in the routine of
an addiction.

I Was A Strip Club Virgin

A young woman is introduced to the sordid world of greased up

My father has eaten lunch every day at the same restaurant for
30 years. His routine was amusing and I decided to go along
with a video camera, on a day when something unexpected occurred.

the tragic incarceration of Russian musician and inventor
Leon Theremin (1896-1993).

10 Speed follows a young bike rider as he dares to oppose the
oppressive student officer on campus.

Still I Rise

Still I Rise attempts to depict the last dream Joseph Merrick,
known as the Elephant Man, might have had as he breathed his
last breath. Tired of sleeping in a seated position with his
head on his knees, he took a mortal risk and layed flat on his
bed. This suffocated him and ended his life in April of 1890.

Peggy Love: One-Oh-One

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Love is an obsession. Pop culture is filled with love songs.
What can the musical expression of the word "love" mean? Here,
one of the great pop vocalists of the twentieth century, Peggy
Lee, sings us some clues.

Romance, Deliverance, the moist advertising of Maybelline and

W.T. MACHAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Pheonix, Arizona
The third grade students in Lori Elander's Dual Language
classroom at William T. Machan Elementary explore who
they are through poetry, art and symbols.
Past The Hat: Ademas Del Gorro was created through a
special program organized by the ASU Art Museum Education
Department and W.T. Machan Elementary School of Phoenix.
With pride we present, for a second year in a row, a work
created by W.T. Machan Elementary School 3rd grade classes.
The work was developed by the students with assistance from
Ms. Lori Elander (W.T. Machan Elementary), Michelle Dock
(ASU Art Museum), Marissa Filippo(ASU Art Museum) and
Tara Kozuback (Local Artist).
