Eugene Grigsby: Works on Paper

Eugene Grigsby has been an influential educator and artist in the valley art community for over fifty years. In the early years Grigsby started an art department at the segregated George Washington Carver high school and later taught at ASU in the School of Art from 1966-1988. Active in many organizations including the National Art Education Association, Grigsby has been concerned with leadership opportunities and with creating better teaching environments and social structures for people of color for many years. His works on paper - woodcuts, lithographs, screen prints and paintings - reflect his concern for the conditions under which people live and his search to better understand his African heritage. This show, with the exhibition The Art of Eugene Grigsby simultaneously on view at the Phoenix Art Museum, is in tribute to Dr. Grigsby’s lifelong contributions and achievements in art and art education.
