The Eye of the Collector:
Works from the Lipman
Collection of American Art
NOVEMBER 20, 1999 - FEBRUARY 13, 2000

Louise Nevelson, Sky Cathedral #2, 1957.
painted wood, 57 x 149 x 16".
Photographed as the Lipman's lived with the work.
Howard and Jean Lipman lived with their collection which embraced both classics of modernism and folk art. The works in this exhibition were for their eyes only, the work that they lived with in their apartment and home. The spirit of their untrammeled collection is apparent in their choices and in the dynamic confluence of the two sides of their collector personalities.
The exhibition includes works by Alexander Calder, Louise Nevelson, David Smith, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Lucas Samaras, Robert Morris and will feature folk art and jewelry.
A Public Reception for this exhibition was held Sunday, November 21, 1999 at the Nelson Fine Arts Center.
