Cyndi Coon

Location: Check-in Boxes at Lobby Desk

Every day we make fleeting, unintentional connections with strangers. Most go unnoticed as we hurriedly go about our busy schedules. Cyndi Coon consciously makes herself aware of these brief, chance encounters and documents the values she perceives herself to share with randomly encountered individuals. As a part of this installation, she has developed files dealing with these very personal, though anonymous, interactions, which museum goers will receive in return for checking items at the security desk. The connections the artist has made will take on extended life through the interplay between the unsuspecting viewer and these personal documents.

Cyndi Coon attended New School for Social Research in New York, Accademia Di Bella Arti in Italy, Oxbow (School of the Art Institute of Chicago), Michigan, received a BFA from Kendall College of Art and Design, Grand Rapids, MI, and went on to receive a MFA from Arizona State University. Her work has been included in the exhibitions: Benefit, Elsa Mott Ives Gallery, New York, NY; Car, Modified, Phoenix, AZ; Legal Paper Work, Beyond Baroque, Los Angeles, CA; The Candy Show, Chicago, IL; The Spurgeon Experience II, Raid Projects, Santa Ana, CA; Outside My Front Door, Harry Wood Gallery, Tempe, AZ; Passing By and Through, NFA Space, Chicago, IL; Waiting Station, Tempe Cultural Services, Tempe, AZ; 1-800 Stories, Phoenix Arts Commission, Phoenix, AZ; Get on the Bus, Tempe Art in Transit, Tempe, AZ; ArtScape(collaboration with Jeanne Hoel), Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, IL; Smart Museum at the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL; and Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, IL.
