Just as Antoine Predock designs his exceptional architecture for exploration and revelation, CUP -- the collaborative name under which Helene Renard and Terry Surjan presently work -- has created Pocket House, an interactive installation constructed from five-foot wide panels of industrial felt within the south bridge of the museum's top gallery. Creating their own environment within the environment of the museum, CUP invites willing participants to interact with their own bodies, as well as the artifacts within Pocket House and the museum/house space itself. Viewers are invited to literally envelop themselves within the work and engage its soft, pliable architecture in ways they feel appropriate.
Helene Renard received a Bachelor of Architecture from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, New York, NY, and went on to receive a Master of Architecture from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI. Her work has been included in the exhibitions; Degree Show, Reproduction and Fragments Towards a City, Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, MI; and Artist-In-Residence, Tempe Public Library, Tempe, AZ.
