THE DOLLHOUSE GALLERY
A Project by Jennifer Katell
January 29 - March 20, 1999

The final exhibition in a one-year series which has made up The Dollhouse Gallery's program is a 50 person group invitational exhibition that will be presented in Sig-alert.

The title and theme of the exhibition is Limits. The idea behind this exhibition is to present a set of limitations within which the artworks must fit, carrying forward one of the underlying themes of the entire project. Just as the dollhouse itself is a limited space in which artists have been invited to create installations, this exhibition demonstrates the ability of artists to work within any given space.

Following is the list of limits that were set for the artists, formats were assigned randomly. These were the maximum dimensions and the submission need not occupy the entire amount of space given, but could not exceed the limits.

cube: 1 x 1 x 1"
cube: 2 x 2 x 2"
cube: 3 x 3 x 3"
tube: 8" long x 1" diameter
flat: 8 x 10"

After the works are submitted Emily Fishman, who has a background in graphic design and architecture and currently works for an exhibition design firm, will design the Limits installation for The Dollhouse Gallery.

Each artist was also asked to submit a brief statement on the idea of limits. The statements will be included in the presentation of this project.

The exhibition will open January 17, 1999 for a one day premiere and artists reception in Los Angeles before traveling to the Arizona State University Art Museum exhibition.
