CANCELLED ARTLAB: Musical Instruments with Radio Healer

Join Phoenix-based artist collective Radio Healer, an indigenous-led group of Native American and Chicana/o artists, in this exploratory art workshop. Participants will each build a musical instrument through an indigenous cultural practice. 

ARTLAB workshops are designed exclusively for youth, ages 9–14, to learn from local professionals and experiment with a variety of art-making techniques. Workshops take place on Saturdays (Feb. 4, March 4 and April 8) and are $15 for Tempe residents. 

Film Screening: Zhang Mengqi’s Self-Portrait: Building the Bridge at 47 KM

The Memory Project is a documentary film series curated by the the independent Chinese filmmaker Wu Wenguang that was founded in 2010. As of 2016, the project features the work of more than two hundred filmmakers that return to their ancestral villages to research the Great Famine period by collecting oral interviews and documentary footage from relatives and other villagers in 22 provinces and 190 villages.  

This event is followed by “Reading Hunger” lecture and performance and a Q & A with the filmmakers
