Cristal Bridges Museum of American Art

Bentonville, Arkansas
Oct 25 - 29, 2013

Please join ASU Art Museum Director Gordon Knox for a very special, insider’s tour of Arkansas! The trip begins in Little Rock and continues through the Ozark Mountains to Bentonville, home of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, founded by Walmart heiress Alice Walton and designed by architect Moshe Safdie. Along the way we will visit the outstanding contemporary craft collection of Robyn and John Horn, view the renowned drawings collection of the Arkansas Arts Center, visit the studio of celebrated artist Leon Niehaus, and visit buildings designed by a variety of contemporary architects, including James Polshek, Marlon Blackwell, Deborah Berke, and Fay Jones. Guides for the journey will include noted Southern historian Tom Dillard; former head of the Arkansas-based Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, Sybil Hampton; and Warwick Sabin, publisher of the award-winning magazine of Southern culture, the Oxford American. Culinary experiences will range from downhome southern fare – barbeque and catfish – to fine dining at the new, upscale Bentonville restaurant The Hive. The tour concludes in Tulsa, our departure city, after a visit to the Philbrook Museum.
